Janet Pihlblad is an artist whose work examines the various ways in which people align and affiliate with ideas about nature, using images, language, and organic matter (moss, plants, stone, leaves, earth).

She has exhibited at P.P.O.W. gallery, the New Museum, White Columns and Metaphor Contemporary Art in NY, at the Carrie Secrist gallery and the Evanston Art Center in Chicago, at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art in Kansas City, the Rockford Museum of Contemporary Art in Rockford, IL, at Galerie Fromment & Putman and Fondation D’Art Contemporain in Paris, as well as many other venues. She has received a studio grant twice from P.S.1 MoMA.

Her work has been written about in TimeOut New York, The New York Times, Artforum, Artnet, Review Magazine, The Chicago Tribune, The Chicago Sun-Times, The Reader, The New Art Examiner and Dialogue magazine and has been the subject of several catalogue essays.

Pihlblad received her MFA from Rutgers University, her BFA from The Kansas City Art Institute, and has taught on the art faculty of George Washington University, Roger Williams University, The Corcoran College of Art and Design and The Art Institute of Atlanta. She currently lives in both New York City and Alexandria, VA.
